First settled in 1651 as part of Olde Bridgewater, West Bridgewater incorporated as a town in 1822. The town is situated 25 miles south of Boston and is home to less than 10,000 people. The town is on the northeast edge of the Hockomock Swamp and a large portion of the southwest corner of the town is covered by the swamp and its wildlife management area.
