Hanover is a town in Plymouth County and is located approximately 20 miles southeast of Boston. The area was first settled in 1649 and was the westernmost part of Scituate. It incorporated as the town of Hanover in 1727. The town’s early economy was based on lumbering and agriculture. The lumber was used for building houses, as well as ships. The town seal is a nod to the agricultural and shipbuilding history of the town. Today, the town is mostly residential and is home to approximately 15,000 people.
